Hide and Seek 1/3 .:Synacky:.

"Chairs in please everyone" droned on the substitute teacher that the first grade boys and girls had that morning. The bell for lunch had just rung, its electronic sound shaking the walls of the old primary school. All the kids ran out with their lunches and hats, a compulsory thing to have on their heads during the summer months or else they had to sit in the shade. This was a rule their principal and put in place and had been re-enforced by the teachers and they were very serious about it.

All the kids were making their way to their usual spots, the older kids taking over the things that the little kids should be playing with and the little kids finding other things to do with their vast imaginations. They ran straight up to the big tree near the playground, sadly for the first graders it was the only safe thing for them to do without looking like the preps, who generally played in the sandbox or ran around in circles pretending to be airplanes.

One of the first graders, Zacky baker, slowly made his way up to the tree. He was normally the last out, the kid most picked on for being slightly pudgier then the rest and for being quiet. But never-the-less they let him play with them which made Zacky happy. If he had to sit all alone, lunch would have been the worst time of the day for him. He sighed as he pulled his hat onto his head just as the first person who had to find people was picked. Jimmy was his name as he had turned to the tree already and was counting in his booming voice that actually scared Zacky. All the other girls and boys squealed and ran like headless chickens for places to hide practically trampling over each other to get to the best spots. The best bit about playing this here was that most of the time people could move from their spots so long as they were not seen by the person searching for them. That was what made lunch time the highlight of all the first graders days. They all just got along and had fun!

Zacky gasped as Jimmy neared 10 for the fourth time. No one knew how to count much further so they had agreed to just could to 10 four times. Zacky ran as fast as his little legs could carry him to a spot that he loved to hide in. He was nearly never found until he moved because he was too cramped, or he just left the game anyway and went to go down the slide which was free at the end of the lunch hour. Zacky was huddled in the hidden area, happily eating the peanut butter and jelly sandwich his mother had made him lovingly that morning before someone barged into his hiding spot panting. Zacky stared at the person wide eyed. This was his spot and never had he been found by someone who wasn't searching and well the boy who was sitting down opposite Zacky...He didn't know. He had seen him around. He knew he had the eyes that looked like chocolate and hair to match. And that was about it really. He bit his lip as the boy looked to him and smiled.

"Hey" Brian said to the rather stunned boy who nodded his head in response and swallowed his mouthful of food. Brian could see the rest of his the sandwich in the boys hands

"H-Hi" Zacky whispered. Being quiet was not always a perk as he was awkward at these kind of things.

Brian however was not. "I'm Brian." he announced rather proudly as if that name held some special value...and right now it did to Zacky. Not many people talked to him so right now Brian was like God. "Who are you?" Brian asked him, cocking his head to the side.

"Zacky"

"Nice to meet you Zacky" piped Brian who gave Zacky a massive smile, a smile that had Zacky grinning like a fool back. Now Brian had started, he wasn't going to stop "What are you eating?"

"Peanut butter and jelly sanwich" Zacky said smiling before he took the half he hadn't eaten yet and handed it to Brian. Giving food away was like the key to friendship and Zacky liked Brian. He wanted a friend.

Brian grinned "My favourite!" he exclaimed and took the other half "Thanks" he said and then sank his teeth into it happily.

However this moment was ruined when Jimmy ran over and laughed "FOUND YOU!" he yelled at them which cause both of them to jump before Jimmy ran off laughing. Once found people went back to the tree and stayed there until there was another round. Brian smiled at Zacky. "See ya!" he said and then ran off to the tree before Zacky even had the chance to say anything. He bit his lip and got out of the hiding spot and walked slowly to the tree. He had a friend! He had a smile on his face that no one could ever get rid of. As Zacky got there the last people began to turn up and just before another game could begin the bell went along with some music signally the end of lunch.

All the first graders ran as fast as they could to their classes, yelling and laughing, pulling their hats off their heads as the first 10 into each class got a lolly. There were two first grade classes in this school which was quite a lot really. Brian was one of those kids who just loved to be in first. He loved his lollies so it was no surprise that he had taken off like a rocket. Zacky however didn't run to class but he wasn't the last in. He went and sat on the floor like everyone else, a huge smile on his face. In all honesty he just couldn't believe he had a friend. And so for the rest of the school day Zacky stayed to himself, thinking about the brown eyed boy who was crazy and fun...and his new best friend.

The next day couldn't come any faster for Zacky. He was actually really excited for school and that scared his parents who had a hard time getting him out of bed. The good mood he had come home with the night before had given them a perfect night. Zacky had eaten dinner, had been quite and went to bed early. To top that all off he was up early and eating breakfast making sure not to make a mess. His parents were confused but none-the-less happy to see their baby boy happy. Zacky was so excited to get to school that he had stood at the door for half an hour waiting for his mother to be finished to take him to school.

Finally they left the house and got to school. Zacky however knew he had to wait until lunch time to see Brian and even then he was beginning to worry...what if Brian wasn't his friend?? What if he had just been there to hide? He really did hope Brian was his friend now...he always wanted a friend. Zacky sat in the playground as he waited. He was on a chair, his knees pulled up to his chin as he waited for the bell. But what surprised him most when someone sat beside him. Zacky looked to the person and grinned when he saw Brian.

Brian grinned back "Hi Zacky" he chirped. He looked just as happy as Zacky and Zacky had a feeling that Brian was most definitely his friend.

"Hi Brian" Zacky chirped back, unable to be happy. He finally had a friend! This was the best morning ever.

Brian looked over to the spot they had hidden yesterday and then back to Zacky "Same spot?" he asked softly to which Zacky nodded. Brian grinned "Cool I'll see you then!" he rushed and then ran off. Zacky laughed softly to himself as he watched him go. He had a crazy friend and that was just the way he liked it.

Zacky eventually made his way to the classroom like all the other kids did as the music played to signal the beginning of the day. What better way to get the kids happy and ready then to play some fun music. Zacky sat on the floor like everyone else and so began the day. They had their usual teacher back who was much nicer and much more fun. She loved all the kids on her class and even talked to Zacky unlike most teachers which only made Zacky even happier then he was.

As if the day couldn't go fast enough Zacky began to grow impatient as he waited for that bell that would tell him he could go outside and have fun! He rested his head on his hands staring at the wall but he perked up as soon as he heard the familiar sound of the bell and was out of the room in a flash after pushing in his chair. Zacky didn't even go to the tree and just slipped into his hiding spot. From where he was he could hear the counting of whoever was it so it was not a problem. Zacky un-wrapped his sandwich, which today was fairy bread. But sandwich style as today was Friday and every Friday he got this. Zacky wrapped up half for Brian and then gently nibbled on the corner of his piece, waiting for Brian.

Brian turned up soon after and Zacky smiled at him. He handed him half his sandwich and Brian gave Zacky a piece of chocolate that he had. Zacky smiled brightly and thank Brian before they dug into their lunch, talking about how good the sandwich was and how stupid everyone was for not already finding them. But they spoke too soon because soon after they were found. Brian shook his head and then looked to Zacky.

"We should play this tomorrow" he suggested.

Zacky grinned "Oh yes we should! But where?"

Brian rubbed his forehead "I don't know...come to the big park? Mum will take me and I am sure you can too? Right?"

Zacky nodded. Brian was very forward but he didn't care. He had a friend! "I'll ask mum" he said softly.

Brian nodded "At lunch time. Bring something and I will bring something else" he said to which Zacky agreed. They then walked to the tree. Everyone had been found pretty fast and so another round proceeded but this time Zacky and Brian hid in different spots. Before long, lunch was over and again the race began for who could get to class first. Zacky didn't care. He was too excited for tomorrow.

The rest of the day had passed quite fast and after getting home and beginning his mother, Zacky was allowed to go to the park. Zacky was very excited about that and had again gone to bed early and had gotten up early. He stayed quiet and perfect all until it was time to go which his mother was very surprised about. Zacky had said nothing as to why he was like this and although she was a bit confused she was sure she would find out soon enough.

Finally they got to the park and Zacky rushed to the playground with two sandwiches. One peanut butter and jelly, the other fairy bread so they could have half of each and waited for Brian. When he saw Brian coming over he got really excited. Brian had actually turned up! After saying hi to each other and sharing the food they sat down and ate before they then decided to play hide and seek themselves. Zacky was first to hide and ran off to a good spot. Brian however not too long after had found him and then they swapped. Brian hid and Zacky went looking for him.

They continued this for most of the afternoon until both of their mothers were calling out to them. Zacky sighed.

"I have to go now." he said sadly.

Brian shook his head "It's okay. My mum wants to go too" he said softly. "But I will see you at school!" he piped up and that caused Zacky to smile.

"Oh yes!" he exclaimed and nodded fast.

Suddenly Brian hugged Zacky. It was a quick friendly hug that had Zacky grinning like a little kid in a candy shop "See ya Monday bestie!" Brian called out before he ran to his mum.

"Bye!" Zacky called back and then ran to his own mother who had a huge smile on her face.

"I see you have a friend" she said softly to Zacky.

Zacky shook his head "No...Not a friend"

His mother looked slightly perplexed "Not a friend?"

"No. Not a friend...A best friend" he said happily.

Zacky's mother shook her head and then walked hand in hand with her son to the car. Zacky had a best friend! And all he had to do all along was play hide and seek.
